About the event

On February 27, 2019, fellow students from Singapore School Manila who volunteered in the workshop created Mabuhay balls to help purify the body of water near our school. Mabuhay Balls are products of mixed clay soil and Mabuhay mix that when thrown in bodies of water, increases the growth of algae and dilutes the silts, resulting to clear and healthy water. With the help of the school, Asian Social Institute and supporters, our workshop was made possible. Volunteers were able to choose their seating arrangement and their team name so that the workshop could have a fun twist. A short introduction was given by Asian Social Institute representatives about what the Mabuhay Balls are and how to make them. After the introduction was given, volunteers were able to create the Mabuhay Balls. In between breaks, we were provided with lunch and snacks by a fast food chain, Jollibee and our sponsor, Oriental Plate. When the workshop finished, we made 1800 balls, enough for 1800 cubic meters of water. However before we could throw them, we needed to wait 2 weeks for them to ferment. We all couldn't wait to put them to use!
